17 Sep 2006 - 56th ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS DAY
Our 56th Annual Summer Tournament Finals took place at Rayleigh Tennis Club. We had perfect weather and watched superb tennis from 12 noon until 7-30 pm. The final match just finishing in front of complete darkness. All the results can be found by clicking on the Summer Tournament button. The Leigh & Westcliff thank Rayleigh Tennis Club for hosting this event, and a special thanks to Debra Rose and her team of ladies for the excellent spread of food for one and all. This day was a final tribute to our Tournament Secretary, John Tanner, who has been running this event for no less than 30 years. John has decided to stand down now and enjoy a well earned rest. We will not let him get away completely as he now becomes a less harassed member of the committee, without the massive task of running the Summer & Winter tournaments. WELL DONE JOHN!
Another thank you to our President Vic Trigwell, who with his LTA connections made sure we had the official umpires to chair our events. Final thanks also to the many association members who supported the day and stayed for so many hours.
A fantastic last tournament for John and a great way to pass the reins over to our new Tournament Secretary Andrew Gardiner.
