The club was formed in 1912 with 2 courts built near Crowstone Church in Kings Road. In 1925 land was given by Mr.Elliot to move the club to Victory Path. 2 hard courts were built in 1959 and a third added in 1995. Crowstone amalgamated with St.Saviours Lawn Tennis Club in 1967 to form the present club, Crowstone & St.Saviours L.T.C.

In 1931 a few members of the Hadleigh & Thundersley Football club decided to form a tennis club, a site was found adjacent to Hadleigh Park Avenue, hence the name of the club. Two grass courts were prepared and Hadleigh Park was born. In 1935 builders bought the land and a Mr.Upson came to the rescue by offering the club a new site for rent in Elm Road. Hadleigh Park joined the L.&.W. association in 1963 and have enjoyed considerable success since that year.
HOCKLEY LAWN TENNIS CLUB

In 1921 the current Club President, Michael Mower's, grandfather donated the ground in Folly Lane. 3 grass courts were put down. A pavilion was built in the 50s with the current one errected in 1964. Three hard courts were built in order that the club could play all the year round. In 1972 saw floodlights at the club and in the late 70s came the synthetic grass courts. Members of the Leigh & Westcliff L.T.A. from the mid 50s.

INVICTA TENNIS CLUB

Invicta Tennis & Table Tennis Club was formed in 1948, with then two courts and a table tennis pavilion. It now has three all weather floodlit tennis courts with a seperate table tennis pavilion. The club welcomes players of all grades and coaching is available.
KENT ELMS TENNIS CLUB

Original Snakes Lane site was built in 1936 and used during the war by servicemen, then called The Devonshire T.C. In 1949 a rent was negotiated and the new name at that time was The Kent Elms Sports and Social Club. This was renamed Kent Elms T.C. in the 70s. Moving to the Aviation Way site in 1994 with a modern pavilion and large car park. A third court was opened on October 2nd 2006.

The land was purchased by Derek Wright in 1946 originally with 3 grass courts. These were replaced, firstly with one court in 1947 and then two others in 1951. During 1957 the club was founded and Leigh T.C. joined the local leagues. Over the next decade the facilities were improved into todays succesfully run club. As well as tennis coaching the present owner offers fitness classes.

The land off Crosby Road was bought by Leigh Road Baptist Church in 1949 and the club was formed in 1950 with two hard courts.The church remains the trustees but there is an open membership. A third hardcourt was opened in 1995. We were one of the founder members of the L and W. Although our membership is low we are a family club and a few years ago we had four generations of the Lewis family playing in doubles together.


RAYLEIGH LAWN TENNIS CLUB

Rayleigh Tennis club was started by Cyril Adams and his sister in 1919. The early members being the friends of the Adams that all lived close by. The original site was in The Hockley Road, next to a house called 'Lavers'. In the Summer of 1964 the membership had grown to sixty it was decided to move to Watchfield Lane and the first balls were hit in the May of 1965.
ROCHFORD TENNIS CLUB

The earliest records go back to 1890 and the tennis at this club was played on real green grass until the late 70s. The Club was purchased by Chris Nelson on July 1st 1999 with a low membership of 25 adult members and 4 juniors. At the start of 2006 this had increased to 68 adults and 90 junior members.


ST. PETERS LAWN TENNIS CLUB

The club was founded in 1936 by a group of St. Peters church members. They first played on two rented courts off Glastonbury Chase. In May 1937 a grass court was laid on ground behind the church. Jim Gilbert, one of the original members, formed an association of small clubs, hence in 1950 the Leigh & Westcliff was formed. We continiue to be a small but friendly & enthusiastic club.

The club started life with the name Southchurch Lawn T.C. and I have no clear indication when it was changed. The first site had two grass courts at Wimborne Road, moving on to Southchurch Park in 1908. The third site obtained in 1911 was in Vaughan Avenue, off Hamstel Road. 78 years of tennis before moving to the current site at Broadclyst Gardens. The club coach is Liam Watts

This being one of the largest Tennis Clubs in the county has the honour of being the host for the Essex Junior Closed championships, and have been the host for over 30 years. The clubs overall membership exceeds 1,000 in varying categories.
The club is situated in a quiet residential area overlooking the Thames Estuary. They have sixteen all weather courts four of which have floodlights.

In the winter of 1928-29 a new club was formed with two grass courts. Four years later this was expanded to 4 grass and 3 shale courts. The club was then called The Ridgeway L.T.C. Closed through the war years it was then re-opened in 1947. The remaining grass courts were converted to shale and the club renamed 'Westcliff Hardcourt L.T.C.' In 1952 floodlights were introduced to one court.

The Club was formed in 1908 and we are planning a centenary in 2008. We boast 8 artificial grass courts, of which three are floodlit, together with a tarmacadum court as well as a short tennis court. The Lawn have an active social programme as well as numerous in house tournaments for our members. Our club coach, Jackie Moody, is available for lessons, group or private. We have teams in all local and county leagues.
