TENNIS & MORE TENNIS

SUMMER LEAGUE TENNIS
As from Summer 2008 we have 15 Leagues containing six teams in each, giving 450 matches for the season. Each team consists of six players
The leagues at this time are divided into Six Gentlemen's divisions, Four Ladies and five divisions in our unique league called 'THE LEAGUE'

THE LEAGUE format was how the Leigh & Westcliff started in 1950. A team consists of a mixed pair, a mens pairing and two ladies to complete the six person squad. We like to believe that we are still unique with this way of playing team tennis. Back to top
WINTER LEAGUE TENNIS
Winter 2008-2009 see our divisions divided as follows;-
Seven Gentlemen's Divisions, Five Ladies,  Six and of the traditional Mixed,  A total of 18 leagues with all teams playing each other home and away.
540 matches played througout the winter months on an every other week basis.

All played outdoors in the unpredictable weathers of South East Essex. Me, as League Secretary finds it hard to believe that so few matches are ever posponed because of bad weather. A credit to the all weather tennis playing community of this corner of Essex. Back to top

SUMMER JUBILEE CUPS
These are club knock out tournaments for the sixteen clubs within our ranks.
MENS JUBILEE CUP, LADIES JUBILEE BOWL, MIXED JUBILEE SHIELD
These are played by two pairs in each team, to the best of three tie break sets, on the clubs specified day, in the week designated by the Cup Secretary.
In the event of both teams finishing with equal number of sets a play off will take place. The captain will pick one player from each pair who will play one deciding tie breaker set. The clubs with first Division teams do not come into play until the third round, this gives the lower division clubs a few rounds to play each other before coming up against top division players. JUNIOR TENNIS
The L.&.W. try hard to encourage young members to join in with competative tennis. The Junior tennis secretary runs five summer divisions at this time and is always prepared to increase the leagues as and when they need to grow.
The leagues in operation at 2008 are four divisions for the Boys, two divisions for our young Ladies, and one small division for the Mixed.
Many clubs use the lower senior divisions to blood their youngsters into team competative tennis. Back to top
